First of all, thank you all for stopping by and wanting to get to know more about Reveal’s owner, Allison! That’s me!

Getting your hair and makeup done can be quite a personal moment if you haven’t done it before. We know having some connection to who you are hiring matters! So I wanted to share a little more about myself and our team.

I grew up in Southern California on a small dairy farm with my 7 older brothers and sisters (yes, 7!). I was the youngest of the 8 of us, so I was able to watch all of my siblings grow up and pursue their passions. One by one, they moved out and headed towards the coast of California. I believe the rural farm life did not fit any of us! I loved seeing their independence once they found ways to earn money by getting jobs or starting their own business. In the midst of wondering what I would be when I grew up, the beauty industry found me!

I began an unexpected modeling career at 14 when I was discovered in a mall in Southern California. It all went so fast, and before I knew it, I was in New York, France and a few spots in between. Being the model was for sure not my calling. I was always so intrigued by the production side of the shoots—the photography, art, hair and makeup. I quickly redirected my modeling career and explored other options in the beauty industry. Perhaps the stylists' constant confusion on what to do with my frizzy, partially curly wild hair had something to do with it too! After completing high school, I enrolled in cosmetology school and completed my training. Immediately after, I doubled up on jobs. I had my own hair clients and assisted in some of the best salons in Orange County, California. It didn’t take long for me to build a clientele offering cuts and coloring services. Something just wasn’t right for me though.

On a whim, I left California to move to Hawaii for something different! That is when I completely fell in love with the diversity of hairstyling and makeup here on Oahu. Working with so many different hair types, textures and lengths, and skin types was so challenging and rewarding. It also did not take long for me to fall in love with my now husband and start a family. We have two kids, a boy and a girl, who equally love growing up in Hawaii and spending every spare moment at the beach. When we aren’t working on growing Reveal, we are at the beach, planning trips to see family, and finding the best spots to eat. I guess perfecting our coffee at home has been a high priority of ours too. It is pretty clear that Hawaii was calling my name and it was meant to be.

Reveal started in 2015 with the goal to create a team of professionals in the beauty industry in Hawaii. Coming from a family of entrepreneurs, I saw their success because they offered something better in the industry that they know best and have a passion for. I knew we could make something more than what was being offered in Hawaii at the time in the beauty industry. I also had a vision to support the hair and makeup artists on our team by allowing them to learn, take time off, and focus on what they are best at, doing hair and makeup. In 2022, we took an exciting, big step to expand our team to the mainland! In addition to Hawaii, Reveal now has teams in Las Vegas, Orange County, and San Diego.

Fast forward to today…

It is so rewarding to call this small business fun even though we have a full task list every day while keeping a business afloat during a pandemic (did not see that coming). With new goals and bigger teams, we are seeing how every decision and experience has pulled this all together. Thank you for supporting me, my family, my team and their families.
