Here are steps to prep your naturally curly hair, whether you plan on working with your natural hair or looking for a smoother style.
HOW DO I PREP MY NATURALLY CURLY HAIR?
Do you want to work with your natural curls?
- Apply your routine products that give you the best curl with the least frizz.
- Allow your hair to air dry completely.
We will refine your natural curl with additional products and tools.
Do you want a smoother hair style?
- Blow dry your hair prior to our arrival.
- Do not flat iron it.
- Refrain from adding any oils. We can add product as needed.
You can also add on a blowout with advanced notice for an additional $50. We need about 30 additional minutes for your blowout prior to starting hair / makeup. Working with your blown out hair, we will use our products and hot tools to create the hair style you desire.
WHAT PRODUCTS DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR MY HAIR?
Davines has amazing products for curly hair. For a defining cream, we use Davines curl controller or Bondi Boost curl boss styling cream.
If you hair isn’t bouncing up and needs some texture to activate the curls, we love Bondi Boost sea salt spray. Davines curl enhancing hair serum is also a favorite for reducing frizz and adding shine.
We apply these prior to the hair drying and love to make a cocktail out of them! A little cream, a little spray... then see how the curls react and feed them what they need. The creams can be reapplied later to tame frizz. We love using a curl serum rather than oil as the smaller molecules can close the cuticle a little better without being greasy.
STYLES WITH YOUR CURLS
An updo is a beautiful way to keep your naturally curly hair and also elevate your look. We can curl any pieces that are left out to give the look a polished touch.
Adding an accessory like a vine, pearls or rhinestones add some dimension to help the shape of the style show. A few fresh flowers are always an option too.
STYLES WITH NATURALLY WAVY HAIR
We love a half up with a twist or braid. This pulls some hair away from the face while elevating the look and also showcasing your naturally wavy hair. Hair accessories are a fun way to add a bridal touch.
For a boho or casual vibe, a down style with some refinement of your natural wave is a super cute way to go.
STYLES WITH SMOOTH HAIR
Classic all down with bouncy, big curls are always flattering. Glam waves or even a glam wave ponytail are new favorites of ours.
ALL HAIR TYPES
For all other hair types, we recommend the following tips to prep your hair for your appointment:
- Have your hair freshly washed and air dried or blow dried so it is 100% dry at our arrival.
- For more volume, blow dry at the root area.
- You may apply a light mousse while you air dry or blow dry.
- Avoid using heavy conditioners and oils.
- Make sure your hair is not oily as it is not recommended to apply hot styling tools to oily hair.
